 – Asheboro, NC native and founder of Mightier Than The Sword Records, Photography & Literature/Heart’s Core Art Store, Tyler "Ty Bru" Brueilly has taken the reins as festival director of the Mightier Than The Sword Awards at Sunset Film Festival.

“This is something my city desperately needs and I soaked up all this knowledge in 2023, so I felt the time was right to organize something. We have all the right elements here in Asheboro for this to be successful and reoccurring. In particular a really marvelous downtown, with a gorgeous and historic venue in the Sunset Theatre that I feel needs something of this caliber to bring a certain level of culture to our city that it lacks.” Brueilly said. Theatre Manager, Taylor Crawford adds, “As Asheboro grows, we strive to offer events for everyone to enjoy at the historic Sunset Theatre. We are excited to establish this film festival to celebrate local and international filmmakers along with other artists.”

Brueilly expands “I met the director Sean Haitz in L.A. at his premiere of ‘Cannibal Comedian’ and fell in love with his work. Speaking with producer, Ryan James after the showing I said we had an historic theatre in my hometown and that Asheboro would love to see the film. That was June 2023, here we are now combining that film with what is widely considered the most terrifying film in the history of film, ‘The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’ in a ‘Deadly Double Feature’ that will close out our festival and initiate a year long celebration as that film turns 50. We are thrilled original cast member Allen “Chainsaw Jerry” Danziger will be in attendance for the entire festival and hoping that Ed Neal will be able to make the trip as well.”

‘Cannibal Comedian’ director, Sean Haitz commented, "I can’t wait for people to see our horror comedy Cannibal Comedian. We put blood, sweat, tears, and more blood into making this film. I’m excited to be screening at the historic Sunset Theatre and getting to meet other filmmakers and film lovers. It’s gonna be a killer event!"

Producer, Editor and Actor, Ryan James continued, “What an absolute treat to finally premiere Cannibal Comedian in the great state of North Carolina alongside and in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Tobe Hooper's classic film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre with Allen Danziger who has both an integral part of our new award-winning horror comedy, of which they very much paved the way for. This is going to be one for the books."

The Mightier Than The Sword Awards at Sunset Film Festival will present a core set of 15 awards, as well as a number of category based awards and will span 50 total films (features, shorts, music videos) during it’s two days. The first screening block will be 10am and the final will be 10pm both days. Q&A, panels, stand up comedians, meet & greets and more activities will be scattered throughout the schedule, with an opening night reception with performances by Elle McKenzie, Britton Buchanan, King M Dot, Cosmic Panda, Donna Hughes and Brandon Shephered at Flat Iron in nearby Greensboro and all can be found here, www.filmandfashionbybrueilly.com/mttsawards
